Hello and welcome to another week of the SLF. Once again it has been pretty quiet week news wise but I guess we’ll find something to BS about.
Every farmer on the Eastern side of the country is looking skyward at the moment, boy has this been a critical dry spell, let’s hope that by the end of this week we get at least something.
The horse flu issue has been a big story across the country and has effected everyone associated with the horses. Two of the most famous horse people Terry “Sully” O’Sullivan and Gre Gre Grazier Bill “Santic” Knights decided to take matters into there own hands. Rather that sitting around moaning about the lack of racing the duo opted for a very long lunch at the Kookaburra last Sunday. Apparently Knights was a bit worse for wear on the crutching board the next day.
Footy finals fever is upon us and I actually went and watched the local team Yarrawonga in their qualifying final and guess what they got flogged. I must be a bad omen.
Gary “Larry” Cameron and Stewart “Smacka” MacPherson played in a three man ambrose event at Stawell on the weekend with local vet Richard “Dog Collar” Hackwille. I’m told there was a bit of controversy surrounding the event, a nameless group of players who regularly attend Wallaloo ambrose events where suspected of not putting the right number/s down on the card. Pretty serious allegations but it didn’t surprise anyone.
I see Larry Cameron took out the Studall Cup this year with 40 odd points. I don’t think that he will have that cushy handicap for much longer.
Track fast weather fine, to use horse racing terms in describing the “Royal” at the moment, let’s hope that the heavens open up and we can have a magnificent surface for the much anticipated Corporate Cup event. I have a few coming over from Yarra and I have been describing the course as Royal Melbourne of the bush.
A new cricket season is dawning and I see a call in last weeks Community News from Armand “Lids” Duxson for all current and new players to make themselves available. I’ve heard that Marnoo’s most famous institution (MCC) is struggling a little for numbers, let’s hope that they can manage to recruit a couple of players because no cricket side in Marnoo is virtually unthinkable.
That’s all for this week.
