Another week
Hello and welcome to another week of the SLF. I managed to get back to the village last week and was amazed how things where holding on. I get around a bit and there are a lot of areas that are gone already, so if John “Jumping” Newall’s prediction is correct then we should be getting a little rain this week which would certainly buy some time.

Irons plays like Woods
Wallaloo Park young gun Trent “Irons” Carter was declared the “Royal” club champion after four solid rounds of golf. It’s the first year he has played regularly and if that is any indication then he should be a regular on the big board. He held his nerve after recording a double bogey on the 110 metre par 3, 14th hole to record a one shot win from the fast finishing Bruce “Boofhead” Hendy.

That’s my boy
I know one bloke that would have been smiling on Saturday night and that would have been Jack “Earl” Carter upon hearing that irons had taken out the title. You see Jack is a multiple winner of the hotly contested title and would be a proud man to see number one sons name in gold on the big board.

Oozing with talent
I was talking to El Presidento Graeme “The G Train” Ellen last Friday night and he was lauding the talent of the young blokes down at the Royal. Irons has proved himself and will be off single figures soon, Stewart “Smacka” MacPherson is already off single figures and Sam and Josh Reading are already established stars. Latecomer Gary “Larry” Cameron will also be off single figures shortly. There are a couple of others that give it a mean thump as well.

Record round
SLF favourite Bruce “Boofhead” Hendy produced his best ever round (73) to take out the B grade title and the runners up club champion. The big fella would have been an immensely popular winner and I’m tipping that he will give the young guns a run for there money next year. Ben “Glendemar” Duxson took out the C Grade.

On the move
Greg “Golfer” Reading wasn’t to far away from taking his umpteenth title but was happy to pass on the baton, but don’t think for a minute that he’s finished yet, he still has a title or two in him. He has also been house swapping with Number one son Josh, he and Ellie are now officially Stawellites.

Forever young
I also caught up with Alec and Shirley Carter during the week and boy do they look fit, Alec tells me he is doing a computer course so he can get the SLF straight off the blog site.

Caught on the run
Landmark guru Damian “Major” Drum was out touring around Traynors way when he spotted his work colleague David “Dasher” Mathews who was running down the road. Could the former rugby league exponent be contemplating a comeback!!

Sparrow fart
I was travelling through Corowa the other day on my way to the Henty Field Days when I contemplated giving former Marnoo moonshiner Graeme “Old Maaaaaaate” McNolty a call. I decided against it because it was much too early, it was 8am.

The new corner
I called in and saw SLF favourite John “Jack” Cameron on Friday night at his new favourite post on the back veranda. The new smoking bans have limited his outings to the corner shop.

Guru benched
Living legend Norm “Guru” Duxson was forced to watch his beloved Cats from the bedroom TV on Friday night. Apparently “Guru Margie”, who is a one eyed Collingwood supporter gets right into the game where as the ever calm “Guru” prefers a quiet game.

That’s all folks
