Big weekend

I don’t know about you but I am stuffed. I attended Dwain “Daryl” Duxson 40th on both Saturday night and Sunday and boy was it big. There were a lot of famous and former locals present and a few stories have emerged so here we go……

Farmer made it

Marnoo’s most famous farmer Brain “Farmer” Healy made it to the party thanks to leading agronomist Andrew “Clown” Newall who drove on by and picked him up.

Funniest trip ever

I just got off the phone to the Big Clown who reported that he had the funniest trip home. In form were Farmer, Stewart “Smacker” MacPherson and Ben “Glendemar” Duxson. He said he was laughing so much that he had to pull over twice and was stiff and sore from laughing so much.

Drinks on the rink

The bowls on Sunday was a hit with some leading lights taking to the rink for the first time. But listen to this, have you heard of anyone being sore after playing bowls……..Well farmer woke up stiff on Monday morning after his marathon stint on the rink

Belt goes too……..

I bet you’re all waiting for the belt winner, well this time it went to Derek “The Mayor” Cameron who was in very good touch all night. Other to get a special mention were David “Towser” Newall, John “Fruity” Nisbet, Paula “Champagne”  Duxson, Ken “Maynard” Duxson, Brian “Farmer” Healy, Aileen “White Wine” Douglas,  Leanne “Chook” Slee, Brad “The Bear” Forrester and Terrence Edward “TE” Brear.

Hold the pole love

Seasoned campaigner Terence Edward (TE) Brear was in peak form especially late in the evening. The proof came when he asked Felicity “Ouyen” Irvine if she could hold the pole whilst he went and had a leak. When he got back Felicity said “here’s your pole back Terrence”, he said “thanks for that flick”. He was deadly serious.

No speeches, no way

Daryl put on his invitation “No Speeches” but Yarrawonga citizen of the year Glen “Wally” Brear had other ideas and called upon some celebrities to take the stage. First was Glen himself who gave a bit of a rundown on Daryl’s life since moving to Yarrawonga, then he called on Trevor “Post Hole Digger” Hargreaves to recite a poem called “The Brew”. This was delivered in spectacular fashion and left the crowed gobsmacked. Next up was Ken “Maynard” Duxson whom delivered some dribble and following that John “Fruity” Nisbet was called upon and left the crowed even more gobsmacked (you will have to ask someone who attended as to why).  Then Nick “The Chief” Bush delivered the main speech and did it in spectacular fashion as well. Then they called upon the party host (who actually didn’t want to speak) who delivered a few thank you’s. So it went from no speeches to about half an hours worth……….

Lamb on the menu

They cooked up lamb for the party and it went down a treat. They got through 13 roasts and 20 three foot long bread sticks.

Legless day warning

I have it on good authority that former pro golfer Brad “Bear” Forrester has been recruited for the Royals legacy day. The big fella can monster the ball some 280 to 300 meters. Not only that he can monster the stubbies as well. Let’s hope it all come to fruition as it will be entertaining.

That’s all

Another week

Another week just belts on by as we enter what I consider to be the best part of the year, Autumn. It especially good up this way as the bite goes out of the sun and the wind seems to drop off.  I’m sure I remember it being to same out at the Kanya Hills.

Sowing the oats

I’m tipping that leading farmer Brian “Farmer” Healy would be getting itchy feet with a bit of rain around, I’m positive that he would be considering starting his sowing program. But one thing is probably holding him back and it’s probably a very important thing, his new air seeder hasn’t arrived yet.

Good job for Jack

Our number one Bathrust Burr cutter (BBC) John “Jack” Cameron would need the army if he was to control the Bathurst Burr up this way. The rain has certainly sprung them into gear but even more prevalent up this way is bindi-eye, it’s everywhere but I’m not sure if that is in Jacks job description!!!!

Big event

This coming weekend is set to be a big one, my fellow Yarrawonga mate Dwain “Daryl” Duxson celebrates his 40th birthday. A few Natives are heading up for the event, which is set to go over 2 days. There will be plenty of characters in attendance, which should provide plenty of fodder for this little publication.

Golfer warm up

The golf season is getting closer and its with great anticipation that we welcome the new season in. They have already started the customary pre season working bees which help bring the revered Royal course up to it’s absolute best. I love it myself for two reasons, I get to go back and play from time to time and the shenanigans the members get up to provide plenty of script for this little column. Bring it on……….

Will see you next week
