I’m told that the “Steak at the lake” was well attended but at the time of writing no stories have hit the desk, perhaps next week.
Harbergers stalwart “Tommy Hamburger” (Tom O’Shannessy) was asked last Thursday night if he would like to play cricket, “no no not really, not keen” was the reply, but after he was told the team was taking a bus to Wyche his reply was “can you pick me up then”.
New MCC recruit Brendan Pateman became the 29th player used by the MCC for the season, which is an amazing statistic. However the 29th player turned out to be a good one as he took six wickets on the flat batting track as the Noo bailed out the home team for 160. Ever reliable “Smacka” (Stuart MacPherson) chipped in for 3 wickets, Marnoo was 2 for 48 at the close of play and should get the runs without to much hassle.
The bus trip to Wyche was just like any other cricket bus trip I was told, plenty of pub stops, plenty pi... stops, no tea and a late arrival back at the corner store. Sounds familiar but the record of a 3am arrival (one trip home from Tatyoon) wasn’t under any threat.
I heard a story about a bloke from Horsham who got loaded up one night and staggered to what he thought was home only to find in the morning that he was sleeping on the couch of his former home when some strange looking kids woke him up. A similar sort of thing happened to a former resident after The Great Mans (Ken Newall) funeral. Obviously details are a little scratchy and I can’t go into to much depth here, but let me tell you it’s a good story.
New President “Grey Skies Above” (Graeme Ellen) has got his troops in order for the upcoming golf season, I’m told that the working bees are all but underway and everyone is looking forward to the upcoming season. I’m also told (but it hasn’t been confirmed) that “Hotwire” (Brendan Pettitt) takes on the demanding role of captain.
The cricket up here is going well with my team finishing on top, my team mate and former Marnoo native “Duxsy” Dwain Duxson has had a pretty good season taking out the batting average and aggregate for the competition, I however haven’t performed as well with my back giving me a few problem after falling down a mine shaft at Kingstons Mine last winter. We start the finals this week and have a pretty good chance.
I went to a show at Finley with a mate of mine Nick Bush, it was a National Party show and featured Deputy Prime Minister Mark Vaile, Nick is the CEO of the Cobram Hospital and is looking for some money from the Federal Government to update the dental practise they have just taken over. The National party faithful were out in force and after a few tongue looseners I told the crowd on our table the story when Nick was chasing former State Treasurer Alan Stockdale around Flemington on cup day abusing him about the cuts to the country trains. I don’t think they new he was a staunch labour supporter, and I hope it doesn’t squander his chances of obtaining the grant.
Enough from me
