Another Week
Welcome to another week of the SLF, I’ve heard that some have had a little bit of rain in the last week, Stewart “Smacka” MacPherson has reported 17mm for the week ending Monday the 17th down Glenorchy way.
Land of milk and honey
Wise Marnoo East and West grain grower Bryan “Farmer” Healy told Smacka that “you don’t need any technology growing grain down Glenorchy way, just throw it on the ground and you instantly get 20 bags”.
Great way to spend a Sunday
An email came through on Sunday “just cooked an asada, having a few beers and its raining, no better way to spend a relaxing Sunday”. There are two rare things there, one that it was raining and two, an asada. Whats an asada you ask? An asada is where you take a small lamb of about 11 to 13 kg’s dressed you split him down the middle and lay him on a frame and stand him next to an open fire and turn him at regular intervals. This is a traditional South American way to cook lamb and of course Wally “Wallace” O’Connor bought those skills back from his time in South America. They tell me it was absolutely spot on and they intend to do another one at the MPM expo and Glendemar ram sale on October 3.
Up shit creek without a paddle
I was talking to my Yarrawonga neighbour Dwain “Duxsy” Duxson last week about a little trouble he had. He had to do some sheep classing at Moulamein last Tuesday, he had to meet a bloke in Swan Hill and stayed the night got up early and headed to Moulamein. Got about half way and gets a flat tyre, that’s fine but when he opened the boot he found the spare was flat and the jack was missing. To add insult to injury he could get no phone service and it was 6am in the morning so no cars came along. Things worked out though and he was home that evening with all the sheep classed and some air in the tyres.
When yu gotta go yu gotta go
Think of this, what do you do when you are in a busy nightclub and you need to go to the toilet (no 2’s) and there are no doors on the cubicles. That was the scenario facing one of our leading young farmers on the weekend just gone. He was busting that much that he went and everytime someone walked in he apologised. It was a bold move but he felt much better after.
Watch out for the Bear
I’m told that ex professional “The Bear” is coming to the Corporate Cup at the Royal this year. The Bear has had the privilege of playing with the “Golden Bear” on one occasion. I’ll find out more about The Bear next week.
That’s all for this week
