Welcome to another week of the SLF. Most Marnoo and district residence received some follow up during last week and I’m told that she’s curl the moustache material.
Marnoo East man about town, Derek “The Mayor” Cameron featured in the Herald Sun last week. He cut a fine figure posing for the camera in front of the implement. I’m sure that the Mayoral duties will take a back seat for a couple of weeks.
Another former native made the paper, Ross Young of whom we are claiming seen as though he played four years of junior cricket at Marnoo. He made his debut for Carlton, his former junior cricket coach John “Fruity” Nisbet was in the crowd watching his former disciple. That would have been a huge thrill for “Young Young”.
I might have told this story but Young’s farther Gary followed the junior cricket. He was told by the late Ken “Fawlty” Newall to make sure he bought a hamper to Lubeck, so Young obliged and loaded the esky with sandwiches, cake, fruit etc. He soon found out, to fits of laughter, that Fawlty had a different hamper in mind.
Partaking in one after the footy with the former shop keeper was David “Towser” Newall. When it was his turn to shout he went to the bar and asked for “two jugs please, sorry that was three pots” to the red faced, well endowed bar lady.
I had a tip off from one of my spies on Sunday to check out page 123 of the Sunday Herald Sun, the wedding section read “Stuart MacPherson, 25, Sally Weeberg, 25”. The questions need to be asked. Has he done it? Where’s my invite? Has he been lying about his age all this time? Is it a shotgun? Well get to the bottom of this!
Look out this week Leigh “Pearl diver” Foster, Armand “Big Herbie” Duxson returns from his overseas odyssey and I’m making a special trip over to interview the big fella in the hope of filling this column with plenty of content next week.
The rain came at exactly the right time for Norm “Guru” Duxson with number one son returning, it save Guru learning how to drive all those new implements. He is happy to be rated number one Harrows man.
I told you that the newly born Maisie Newall would have a good streak of black hair. That was one winner for the week.
My Tigers reached a new low on the weekend, I know the many district Tigers supporters would like to forget the season ever started. Bring on cricket season.
The golf was red hot at the “Royal” on the weekend with the course being in superb condition. Trent “Trentee” Carter hit a blistering 73 off the stick, others to record good scores were Josh “Callaway” Reading (74), Stewart “Has he done it?” MacPherson (76) and Gary “Larry” Cameron (78). I’m told that the form didn’t reach into Sunday with Wallaloo going down 5 zip in the pennant.
A funny sight on Saturday at the Royal was “Larry” Cameron and Tom “Hamburger” O’Shannessy lathering on the sunscreen on the eleventh hole. This was short lived as by the time they got to the twelth it pelted down and waterproofs and umbrellas were the go.
I’m told that the ground temperature is four degree warmer than this time last year in the Marnoo area, the grass should go whoosh!
