Well I write from a distance but I can virtually see the smile on the faces of all Marnoo and district natives after a good rain last weekend. It was a remarkable rain event as it affected Southern Qld, all of NSW, most of Vic and most of SA. It will trigger a frenzy of activity over the next month and we will all be hanging out for some follow up soon.

I attended my first dawn service here in Mulwala last Thursday and it was a moving event, even at a place like this they managed to get about 600 people along in an event that is getting more popular each year. It great to see the former diggers (and others) partake in a few at 6:30 in the morning. I must admit I had four or five and they were tasting very nice indeed.

I caught up and had a chat with former native and brother to “The Pest” Jenny “Dot” Gibson in the street last week, I had to introduce myself because she wouldn’t have known me for a bar of soap having lived in the Kanya hills for so long. She mentioned that she receives and enjoys all the local news every week.

I know the local Sargent quite well and he is just moved into a brand new house having lived in a shed with his wife and four kids for two years. They still had plenty of boxes to unpack from two years ago but the Sarg got a belly laugh when he claimed his inefficient wife packed her exercise ball in a large box. It filled the box because she failed to deflate it.

I’m told and I may be wrong on this one but one particular native or ex native has visited a nudist camp lately. Apparently the organisation bought a part of former high flyer John “Jack” Elliott’s farm at Moulamein in NSW and there was as many as 2000 there over Easter. Locals say the boat traffic on the Edwards River had never been busier.

Andrew “Clown” Newall and his lovely wife Sue have just given birth to their first child, a girl and her name is Maisie Charlotte Newall. I’m only guessing but I bet she has black hair.

Stewart “Smacka” MacPherson has being calling Leigh “Blue Can” Foster the Malaysian Pearl Diver, why you ask, well apparently these divers are trained to get their heart rates down to around eight beats per minute. This is because they can then stay underwater for longer and therefore get more pearls. Smacka recons Old Blue Cans ticker is running at about the same rate.

The so called Malaysian Pearl divers ticker will go up a notch or two when Armand “Herbert” Duxson returns in a week or two, after a trip through dry old Africa the big fella will be thirsty.

The Aussies did a wonderful job winning the World Cup in the dark, Marnoo cricketing widows are certain that every game finishes in the dark. Time after time their cricketing husbands return home late after a day in the field, claiming they had only had a couple.
