Welcome to another week of the SLF. To tell you the truth it has been a very quiet news week, as they say but we will try and dig up something.
My neighbours “Duxsy” (Dwain Duxson) and his lovely partner Paula did the “run for the kids” on Sunday. It is a 15km event run trough the Domain tunnel over the Bolte Bridge and back though the city, a tough circuit but they got through it. I’m told it was funny running down the freeway part of the leg as the bushes on the side of the freeway were littered with relieving runners of both sex. You could see a lot of white moons facing the ground.
I went but couldn’t do the run because of an old war injury.
Something like 27000 people took to the road and one former native I saw in the crowd did the event in 50 minute. Campbell McLennan who now looks like a distant runner was only 3 minutes (which is probably nearly a kilometre) behind the winner.
Also spotted in the crowd were “Flogger” (Doug) and Laurel McLennan, they are great supporters of the Royal Children’s Hospital which was the beneficiary of the event. When I spotted them in the crowd Laurel was encouraging the runners on the sidelines and Flogger was literally holding the baby.
I’m told the blog is getting more popular by the week as I’ve heard that ace Carnamah John Deere salesman “Burger” (Nicki Healy) has been getting a few laughs from across Nullarbor.
I’m told that former Marnoo fruiterer “Fruity” (John Nisbet) had to miss out on “The Mayors” surprise 40th bash because he was working, that wouldn’t of happened in the old Marnoo days Fruity missing an event like that.
I’m told that entertaining local “Smacka” (Stewart MacPherson) trapped one in the web on the weekend, Christmas is getting closer!!
The golfing season has started and El Presidento “Grey Skies Above” (Graeme Ellen) has bought himself a big Banger (a big one wood). The indicator is if you hit a good one off the first then the purchase was successful, well I’m told that “Grey” walked off the tee with a big smile on his face.
Speaking of “The Royal” I have been telling the people up this way about this lovely little club out in the beautiful countryside and they are keen to come an explore it. Look out at the end of the year as we are trying to organise a mini bus full consumers to the signature event the Corporate Cup, I don’t know about their golf but I can tell you first hand they will be good for the cash register.
Smacker tells me that he shared himself between “The Royal” on Saturday and “McBeal” (Glenorchy) on Sunday, is he becoming the golfing tart and taking over from “Be My” (John Guest) who is in dry dock for a short period of time.
The football has started and boy is it going to be hard to pick this season with the competition so even, my mob The Tiger opened up on their usual footing with a loss but were hoping we can finish about 9th this season, we don’t want to change too much. My local team Yarra kicked off the season up here unfurling the premiership flag from last year, they had a pretty good win and will be in the mix this season.
