Let’s hope that the rain comes later this week, it certainly will be more than welcome. I managed to get back to this village for a couple of days leading up to and over the weekend and managed to witness a few stories for once.
I attended the Wickham wedding in Stawell and Halls Gap on the weekend and it went off really well. There was plenty of “form” shown by natives both ex and current.
One such current native “The Mayor” (Derek Cameron) was voted the Norm Smith medallist by his partners in crime, he managed to clinch the prized award late in the evening when he returned from his room without the upper and lower set of fangs in. I sight that had “Spec” (Andrew Arbuckle) rolling around the ground in fits of laughter.
The Cameron’s save their best form for Halls Gap so it seems as I have it on good authority that “Larry” (Gary Cameron), after a big day consuming, tried to emulate the three tenors late in the evening in a packed caravan park over the Easter period. He certainly coped plenty of colourful feedback from his sleepy neighbours.
The Camerons are in the news this week as “Jack” and “Fayzeee” went to visit “Maaaaaaaate” and “Mrs Maaaaate” (Graeme and Cheryl McNolty) last weekend. Nothing has changed according to Jack.
“The Fruiterer” (John Nisbet) was in good form at Halls Gap as you would expect, he mentioned to me that he is busy working at a type of welfare centre for the underprivileged with wifey “Joybells”. He said that he has to be up around 5am which is a bit different to the shop hours he used to keep in Marnoo when, on occasions he used to be getting home at around that time!
Father of the groom “JW” (John Wickham) was in good form as he “released” his eldest son. He mentioned that it was only the second time he has worn a suit, well he must have enjoyed it because he was still prancing around in it all the next morning.
I’m told that “Big Herbie” (Armand Duxson) had to send an SOS for some more money. “He can bloody well go without” was “Guru Margie’s” reply, but I’m told she weakened and gave the big fella the coin he required before his return in early May.
Andrew “Upstart” Nisbet was performing well and if they were issuing runner up Norms Smith’s he would get it. His behaviour prompted his mother “Joybells” to tell some onlookers at the wedding that “my other son is nice”!!
SLF regular “Smacka” (Stewart MacPherson) returned to the football field for Stawell seconds and enjoyed the outing on the forward flank. I am also told that things are looking rosy for the Christmas deadline.
If its entertainment you require then I suggest that you go and play mini golf at Halls Gap, the 18 hole course is challenging and entertaining and I guarantee you will be back for more. Just for the record The Mayor beat Square Leg with Fruity running 3rd and Upstart back at the rear. In the associates Paula and “Doona” tied with Joybells and Julia filling the other places.
