Another “hot” week
Hello and welcome to another edition of the SLF. Well what did you all think of the heatwave last week, makes the “milder” 38’s and 39’s feels like Christmas in New York. The Yarrawonga Mulwala A grade cricket team fielded for 5.5 hours in 46 degree heat and at times only had 9 on the field due to heat stress. My sources tell me that the sensible Wimmera Mallee cricket association called all games off, so the MCC after making 399 last week had to settle for half the points.

SLF inducts 5 natives to the Hall of Fame
We have been going a while now and we have many people that provide the news for this column mainly through their antics. So I have decided to announce a Hall Of Fame whereby SLF favourites can be recognised. The first four inductees are:

Norm “The Guru” Duxson: One of my all time favourites who provides entertainment on the sporting arena, in one of the many organisations he is involved in and on his farm at Wallaloo East. The name “Guru” sits well with this native.
John “Jack” Cameron: A Marnoo ornament, Jack has been entertaining the masses either locally or through this column for years. Is famous for his one liners and locals now sit in anticipation waiting for the word of wisdom.
Stewart “Smacka” MacPherson: Smacka is never too far away from the action week in week out, a born entertainer who likes to do things a little different. Always has a laugh at himself which is a key ingredient for Hall of Fame membership.
Bruce “Boofhead” Hendy: This local trucking entrepreneur has been a little quiet of late but did enough early to earn the converted stripe. We know he’s the opposite of the brown snake where he hibernates in the summer and comes out firing in the winter, especially when the golf is on.

That is the list of our first 4 inductees, don’t be disappointed if you missed out just make sure you provide the entertainment that allows you to feature prominently in this modest column. We will induct more Hall of Famers as we move along.

Rostron population explosion
Rostron funny man and father of the year Rueben “Rostron” Cheesman and his lovely wife Katrina have added many percentage points to the Rostron population by having a little baby girl (Neve Mary) late last week. And while wifey (he calls her that) was recovering, a couple of likely lads that go by the name of Smacka and Herbie turned up in Ballarat to wet the baby’s head. As you do.... Well Rueben who is a bit of a stopout himself managed to put in a huge performance and was a little bit worse for wear as was Smacka who fell asleep on the hospital couch the very next day.

Former Marnoo lad doing his duty for the rich and famous
Former native Anthony Barham was written up in Mike Sheahan’s column in Tuesdays Herald Sun doing his duty for the rich and famous. Barham was on an Asian trip with some of the Carlton lads, namely Sticks, Juddy, Harv’s, Fev etc etc. But Barham wasn’t too concerned about those guys it was arguably Australia richest man Richard Pratt he wanted to help. Pratt had to leave the entourage’s dinner a little early and had to cross the busy road, so it was Barham to the rescue as he stopped the traffic in both directions to allow Pratt to cross. I’m sure Barham went up in the ratings after that!!! Smart man....
