Welcome again to another week and happy new financial year. I’m sure most would like to put 06/07 behind them and hope for a much better 07/08. Even though it’s probably catch up football I’m sure most of the budgets look pretty good providing we get a good spring.

I spent the week in Tassie at a (how to be a better journalist) conference, one of the speakers mentioned that if you don’t think you can cut it as a journalist then you can earn better money joining the paparazzi. I’m pretty happy with that, I recon I’m fairly annoying, I’m always hunting around for a good story and nobody want to speak to me!

I was in Launceston and I haven’t been there for ages, quite a nice place I thought until I rang my mate who farms on the East coast, he said “nu mate there all bogans in Loney, Hobarts a much better place”. It seems that the rivalry in Tassie is even bigger than the NSW/Vic rivalry. There is an imaginary line somewhere in the middle and below that line they drink Cascade and above it the drink James Boag.

I liked Loney anyway because my favourite two cricketers come from there, Boony and Punter.

Whilst on the plane home former Aussie captain AB was sitting in front of me, I’m told he was playing a bit of golf with a few mates and didn’t have a very good round. He had a pretty serious look on his face and I can see why they named him “Captain Grumpy”

This just hit my desk. Found: two plastic bags of Porno books, 59 in total found under a bush between Marnoo and Callawadda on the Stawell road. In the fax I received it says “If he or she wants them back they have to place an ad in the community news so the finder can return them. I, the finder, is not admitting I have found them publicly until the owner is found and answers some questions to prove ownership”. Strange one this one, sounds like the finder wants a bit of time to read them!

This week is the “Royal” annual tournament, this is always a well patronised event even though they don’t get the crowds of the halcyon days back in the 70’s and 80’. Back when Ken “Faulty” Newall and Andy “Shiiiddt” Healy were in charge. Those were the days.

I’m told a few of the Royal faithful ventured to McBeal on Saturday with no such luck. Consumers Gary “Larry” Cameron, Stewart “Smacka” MacPherson and Trent “Irons” Carter managed to keep up a widely recognised Wallaloo tradition by stumping it until about 9:30, a late night at McBeal. They then went back Smacka’s cooked up a storm, called a taxi and ended up in some sleazy Stawell nightclub. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday!

Smacka is tipping that Armand “Herbie” Duxson will be out of action for some time as his lovely Partner Marcia returns from her year long overseas adventure. “I’ve probably lost Herbie as a drinking mate but I think Trent and Larry are still keen”
