Hello and welcome to another week of the SLF. Things are going along pretty well and boy has it been cold, so much for global warming. I have to admit I am not yet sold on global warming, I think we are just going through a cycle but I do agree that we have to change our ways a little if the population of the world is going to continue to grow at such a rate. Anyway enough of the worldly stuff, lets get on with the more important stuff, like what’s happening around the district.
This week we have the much awaited Stewart “Smacka” MacPhersons profile, without further introduction here it is:
Name: Stew MacPherson SLF Name: Smacka How would you describe your personality: Vague & Forgetful What would your friends say about you: See Above Late or Early: Late, but I have been known to turn up to things a week early, must buy myself a diary one day. Wildest place you have been: Evening out with Hayden McLennan in a underground Bosnian nightclub or touring around the back streets of Derry with a colourful local we met at the hot dog stand with Ben Duxson rolling around the back seat drinking warm beer. A place you would like to go: Middle East, Marnoo Football reunion. Most admired local farmer: Guru Norm Beef or Lamb: They both have a very dear spot in my belly
Drink: Beer, coffee, What or who makes you laugh: Peter Helliar, Bob Franklin, Andy Healy. What frustrates you: Negative people, going out in cricket. Favourite SLF Personality: To hard to pick, had a lot of fun with Herbie, Benny the bear, Winebar and Square Leg. Best thing about living in Marnoo: Don't no, I don't live there but I very much enjoy my visits and playing sport there. Marnoo has a very good community thanks to a lot of hard work from locals.
Most embarrassing moment: Having a allergic reaction to malaria tablets whilst in Bulgaria which affected a very sensitive part of the male body & having to go to a female doctor who didn’t speak any English. Two dream dinner guests: PINK and Darren Lehmann.
It’s amazing what two and a half inches can do, no it doesn’t relate to the lost and found pornography, I’m talking about the rain in the Yarra district. It has been a lot dryer here than in the Marnoo district so when they had the big rain two weekends ago it has turned the district around. Fair dinkum the crops grew a couple of inches in a week.
Former native of Callawadda Sandy “The Know All” McGregor is really enjoying the limelight that has been created by his (what some are calling) champion jumper Some are Bent. In a couple of weeks the horse will be going for his ninth straight jumping win in a row in the Hiskens Steeple. If the jumper manages to win that race he will be joint holder of the Australian successive jumps record and he will have amassed in those nine straight wins approximately $900,000 in prize money.
“The Know All” will surely have to miss the MFC reunion he instigated in favour of the horse race. I know for sure he won’t get a cheque for $300,000 at the reunion.
If you think “The Know All” is lucky well you are probably right, but take it from me he is no one horse wonder, he’s ploughed “plenty” into the horse game over the last decade or so.
I’m very much looking forward to the reunion and to have local footy back at the MCG will be special (Bruce). What I am really looking forward to though is the unveiling of the upgraded scoreboard. I have been tipped off as to what will happen but I’m not sure if my source is telling the truth.
I’m into quotes lately and one I saw from the late great Peter Brock tickled the proverbial. His motto was: “Bite off more than you can chew and then chew like buggery”
Please note that this column has been done under the influence of alcohol and I wouldn’t recommend it as it takes twice as long to correct all the spelling mistakes (that’ the ones the spell check will fix) and it’s not a good look for the kids. However I am heading off for a couple of days and the natives that came around for Sunday lunch don’t mind a few.
Remember to tell your friends about the blog, you can also add your comments if you like, go to http://thesquarelegfiles.blogspot.com
That’s will do
