Welcome to 2009
Were back for the 2009 year and hopefully it can be a good one as we all dust off our 08 hangover and saddle up again for another tilt at “trying to make a living”. It may be daunting looking at the year ahead but it’s also exciting, you never know what is going to happen.

Water “not” under the bridge
I recon my mate John “Jack” Cameron would have ditched the saying “water under the bridge” many years ago because there simply has been non. The reason why I mentioned this is because that was going to be my opening line for 2009, I was going to say “lots of water has passed under the bridge since we last delivered the SLF”. But then I thought what a stupid statement in a drought!!!

Girls flog boys
The girls gave the boys a touch up at Herbies 30th birthday held many moons ago (last year), according to my spies the ladies managed to stitch up the boys for “belt honours” and the “sun up” prizes. I won’t go into too much detail and name the girls as they may be respected mothers in the district. I have traditionally named belt winners in the past with blokes like “Young Nisbet”, “Larry”, “Smacka”, “Herbie”, “Fruity” and “Be My” just to name a few but the difference here is that these guys have reputations that are shot to bits!!!!

Cricketers start their 2009 in style
The cricketers are fired up and aiming for the finals after a somewhat below par effort in the first half of the season. The list is strong but it’s just a matter of getting the cattle on the field each week, with holidays etc that is somewhat difficult. The story on Saturday was that half the team was made up of regulars and the other half made up of Tennis players whom have all of January off. Whispers coming down the line tell me that Sam “Kekovich” Reading is an absolute natural and has a bowling action that resembles Paul Reiffel and the talk amongst the team heads is that they are looking to offer him a carrot to “switch balls” for next season.

Openers perform
Ben “Glendemar” Duxson made his highest score (maybe ever) with a sparkling 77 and shared an opening partnership with his old mate Stewart “Smacka” MacPherson who made 31. But the big bonus of the day was John “Landmark” Mathews scoring 20 after coming off two previous ducks. Marnoo ended up making 165 from their 40 over’s and then dismissed Brim/Kellallac/Sheep Hills for a meagre 106. The five bowlers used all too two wickets each with MacPherson impressing with 2/9 off his 8 over’s.

End of message
