A “wet” week
The weekend saw some rather high totals of rain in the district with some natives recording over 3 inches in the old. Views would differ on whether it will be a hindrance of a help but in these rain deprived times it’s great to see it can still do it and in decent numbers.

Creeks are a running
I heard on the vine that the Anderson and Wallaloo creeks along with the Richardson river is running but I haven’t heard from my reporter who reports exclusively on the Muddy Waterholes Creek and the Avon River.

Cricketers get the points
The MCC boys did very well as the opposition team Wycheproof forfeited there one day game due to a number of players attending the Wyche Derby Day races, with that The Noo sits with 2 wins and one loss and is setting itself for an improved year on last year.

Cup tip
The cup is a time honoured event that this struggling little journalist attends each year, it is truly an event that all should attend just once in a lifetime but beware it’s very crowded and you will have to push and shove your way to every bar, food outlet and toilet. For what its worth I am tipping the Irish stayer Mahler but I sentimentally hope that Dolphin Joe runs well for local whisperer Terry “Sully” O’Sullivan.

Not giving too much away
Stawell Man about town “Shacka” Dunn mentioned to Stewart “Smacka” MacPherson that he caught a couple of good fish the other day in the Wimmera River. When asked by Smacka which spot he caught them he narrowed it down to somewhere between Mt Cole and Jeparit.

The Cup won’t be the same
I’m told that big Armand “Herbie” Duxson is making his first appearance at the Cup and will be accompanied by Gary “Larry” Cameron. Do Cup organisers know what they are in for?

That’s all for this week
