Welcome to another week of the SLF, another week goes by and another loss to the Tigers, once again close but no chocolates. What about the bombers aren’t they flying, I can virtually see the cheesy grins on the faces of all (and there are plenty) the bombers supporters in the Marnoo district.
Speaking of the bombers, could Kevin Sheedy be there for another 10 years, anything’s possible.
Former Marnoo fruiterer John “Fruity” Nisbet pointed me to an interesting website last week. The website is run by former native Kevin “Bloody” Court (or that’s who we think it is) and features some history on the Marnoo Footy Club. There are quite a few blanks that need filling in but it will bring back some memories. Simply go to www.marnoofc.footypedia.com
I see on the website that Marnoo beat Banyena in the GF in 1908. I wonder if “Bocky” Burn played in that game!!!
Whilst on the site go to season 1954, there are several reports and some famous district names featured.
All the talk is about the 87 premiership reunion, should be a great event and I’m very curious about the “unveiling of the new scoreboard”. Could it officially become it’s unofficial name “The Barry Lang Memorial Scoreboard. We will have to wait and see.
My team Yarra endured their first loss over the weekend going down to Wang by 50 points, apparently the boys had a day they would like to forget.
The natives and others are looking forward to Legacy day this Saturday. One team captain “Fruity” Nisbet has ordered NO DRINKS for his team which features my fellow Yarra resident Dwain “Duxsy” Duxson, Derek “The Mayor” Cameron and his brother “Gary “Larry” Cameron. I’m sure the big fella had his tongue firmly planted in his cheek when he made that statement.
Celebrities Stewart “Smacka” MacPherson and Armand “Herbie” Duxson couldn’t decide who was going to drive to the ball last Saturday night. They thought they would make the decision after their round of golf. Things started to take a bit of shape when Herbie was allocated to play with Chris “Entanglement” Webb and after nine holes the message was sent saying “tell Smacka he’s driving”
The second most sort after trophy at the Royal was won by newcomer Trent “3 iron” Carter. He scored a 3 shot win to take the 2007 ANZ Cup.
The season is spot on in most parts of Eastern Australia but spare a thought for our fellow farmers in the West, they are heading for back to back droughts, something they have probably never experienced. I’m told that the farming country North of Perth all but blew away last week with seed from dry sown crops ending up paddocks away.
Still even though things look good always remember John “Jack” Cameron’s statement “The drought aint over until the creeks are flowing and all dams are full”
Remember to tell your friends about the blog, you can also add your comments if you like, go to http://thesquarelegfiles.blogspot.com
That’s enough.
