Welcome
Hello again and welcome to another week of the SLF. It was a big week last week for all I’m guessing as people tackle the wash-up (no pun intended) from the floods/rain. It was so exciting to see all the water around and even more exciting is that we are finally odds on to get a great spring.
Jack’s back (although he never was gone)
When you need a strong voice our very own John “Jack” Cameron comes to the rescue and that’s exactly what he did. Last week the ABC rural reporter lady from Horsham was looking for someone to talk to about the flooding and rain. But to her dismay a couple of people turned her down for an interview. One was machinery import guru Nigel “Winebar” Slee, he said he didn’t want to be interviewed (don’t know why) but “I have someone that would”. So down they drive to Jacks farm to conduct the interview on the famous back porch. It all went swimmingly as Jack quoted “we might lose a couple of crops but the benefits far outweigh the negatives”. Well done Jack
Look what I caught
Now this story was relayed to me by one of my spies and he didn’t really know if it was true or not, but it’s that good that we are going to run with it anyway. I’m told that the second best district agronomist Hugh “High Yield” Russell got a little caught in some flood water and his ute went completely under. So he hailed down a farmer and got the tractor to try and fish the vehicle out. High Yield then duck dived down to where the ute was, hitched the tow rope onto the ball pull and the farmer proceed to pull the vehicle out. Once the vehicle was been pulled out of the flood water High Yield realised that the vehicle that was being pulled out wasn’t exactly his, so there must have been two utes in raging torrent. I probably shouldn’t say this but I keep thinking about how you could liken it to a black baby being born to two white parents….
Where’s Larry
I have not heard from our very own Gary “Larry” Cameron since he left for “somewhere in Asia”, although I have been talking to people that have been in touch with him and according to them all is well. I’m just hoping he will be back in time for the cricket season…..
If you can’t win then merge
Speaking of cricket something disturbing happened last week as ANA/Boolite and Rich Avon/Services combined to form the newly named Donald Cricket Club. Now I remember a decade or so ago when Rich Avon and Services combined, which was the combination of two strong clubs in there own right, to form a powerhouse. Now they have gone and done it again, which makes it hard for little town clubs like Marnoo.
